Lines, Dots, and Figuring Out My Style

When I first started tattooing, there was a lowkey pressure that I should know “My style”
I would ask myself, “What kind of tattoos do I do?” and all I could think was:
“The kind where I try not to mess up.”
At first, I tried a little bit of everything. I was practicing on fake skin like a maniac — mandalas, lettering, traditional flash, aliens with sparkles… it was like a greatest hits collection of chaos. But somewhere in that mess, a pattern started to form. Or more accurately… a dot pattern.
I started falling in love with dotwork. Like an unhealthy kind of love. OBESSION!
There’s something super satisfying about it — it’s controlled, intentional, and honestly kind of meditative. You really have to slow down and be in it. And once I leaned into it? I couldn’t stop. I was dotting everything. Suns, moons, skulls, cats. If it could hold still long enough, I probably put dots on it.
I also started gravitating toward bold, sketchy designs with color — the kind of stuff that felt more like graffiti or art class than your typical clean, fine-line Instagram tattoo. I wanted emotion. Texture. Imperfection that still looked freaking cool.
While I absolutely love dots and bold lines, I’m still figuring out my style. I don’t think finding my tattoo style is a “one and done” kind of thing — it evolves as I do. I’ve still got so much to learn and the more I learn the more I find my style. I’ve learned that when I draw the way I want to, the right clients find me.
